Our Engineering Division oversees and monitors all road projects from inception to completion. And continues to enhance Traffic Calming measures –our residents spoke and we listened--- to date 57 speed humps were installed and approximately 30 more are scheduled to be installed in late spring/summer of this year. In addition, the City of Plainfield which received $12,650,000.00 in grant funding for the reconstruction of Route 28 Road Improvements.
Route 28 Improvements
Section 1. West Front Street (Jefferson Avenue to Rock Avenue) was awarded a grant in the amount of $450,000.00 from the NJDOT.
Section 2. West Front Street (Rock Avenue to Plainfield Avenue) was awarded a grant in the amount of 3.2 million from the NJDOT.
Section 3. Plainfield Avenue (West 4th Street and West 5th Street) to Park Ave was awarded a grant in the amount of 5 million from the NJDOT.
Section 4. Park Avenue from East Fourth and Fifth St. to South Ave (Berckman Street to Terrill Road) was awarded a grant from the NJDOT FHWA 2024 in the amount of 4 million.
Safe Routes to School
With Federal funding of over 1.3 million for the Safe Route to School project to improve/ upgrade Five (5) Intersections with new traffic beacon lights, striping of pedestrian crosswalks, installation of roadway safety signs and the milling and paving of these intersections.
Safe Streets/Roads 4 All (SS4A)
The City of Plainfield will receive up to $400,000.00 in grant from the US Department of Transportation Federal Highway Administration (FHWA) through the Safe Street for All (SS4A) grant program.
Signal Division:
Continues to provide the following additional safety and traffic calming measures across the City of Plainfield
Painted 25% of Curbs, Stop Bars and Crosswalks in the City of Plainfield that measure a total of 6.0 Sq Miles
Replaced a total of 350 vandalized or faded traffic and street signs throughout the City of Plainfield.
Replaced and Installed a Total 69 No Outlet? Dead End signs.
Installed a total of 11 new Four Way Stop Signs set up intersections
Also, as part of the mayor’s “Light Up the City” initiative our Signal Division is working in conjunction with PSE&G to replace all High-pressure sodium (HPS) lamps with Light Emitting Diodes (LED) lamps for better sustainability and to light up all streets across the City of Plainfield.
Green and Sustainability Initiatives (EV Charging Stations):
As part of the mayor’s going “Green and Sustainability initiatives the City of Plainfield purchased 11 EV Charging Stations to complement our 21 Hybrid vehicles and are in the process of installing EV Charging stations in the City Hall parking lot for the electrical charging of these vehicles.
