Adrian O. Mapp is a dedicated public servant, a seasoned financial expert, and a progressive leader who has served as the Mayor of Plainfield, New Jersey, since 2014. Under his leadership, the city has undergone a remarkable transformation, emerging as a model of economic revitalization, fiscal responsibility, and social equity. His tenure, spanning nearly 12 years, has been marked by unprecedented investment, infrastructure advancements, and policies that uplift residents of all backgrounds.
Born on December 2, 1956, on the Caribbean Island of Barbados, Mayor Mapp’s journey embodies resilience, determination, and a steadfast belief in the power of education and hard work. Migrating to the United States in 1977, he settled in Plainfield in 1979, where he built his family and career. A graduate of Rutgers University with a B.S. in Accounting, he furthered his expertise with an MBA in International Business from Fairleigh Dickinson University. Before stepping into public service, Mapp accumulated over 30 years of experience in accounting and finance, including a significant tenure at Bristol-Myers Squibb.
Economic Growth & Development: Almost $2 billion in private investment, the construction of 6,000 new residential units, and more than 600,000 square feet of retail space have re-energized the city’s business environment. Plainfield’s designation as a Transit-Oriented Development Hub has been a catalyst for growth, spurring new housing, businesses, and employment opportunities.
Fiscal Strength: Plainfield has consistently improved its financial standing, receiving the highest rating (MIG 1) from Moody’s for six consecutive years. His administration has balanced the budget, introduced three no-tax-increase budgets since 2020, including in 2025, and significantly reduced audit findings to near zero.
Public Safety Advancements: Crime in Plainfield has dropped by over 52% overall, thanks to strategic law enforcement investments. Initiatives such as citywide surveillance cameras, officer body-worn cameras, investments in advanced technology, and the "Light Up the City" program have made neighborhoods safer.
Infrastructure Overhaul: Plainfield has undergone a comprehensive revitalization, with over 60 percent of roadways repaved. The expansion of transit services, including the off-peak One-Seat Ride to New York City, has increased property values and enhanced commuter convenience.

Mayor Mapp is married to his childhood sweetheart, Amelia Mapp, and they share two daughters, Shermona and Ayisha. A devoted family man and active member of Saint Mark's Episcopal Church, he has long been engaged in mentorship and community service. As the founder and chairman of Plainfield Now Inc., a nonprofit dedicated to addressing social and economic inequalities, Mapp continues his mission of empowering future generations.
