Under Mayor Adrian O. Mapp’s leadership, Plainfield is not just changing — it is evolving into a model city of innovation, equity, and vibrant community life. The past years have laid a strong foundation: billions in economic investment, state-of-the-art recreational facilities, zero homicides in 2024, and historic strides in sustainability and public safety. But the journey isn’t over. With your continued support, the Mapp Administration is poised to deepen this progress — transforming every neighborhood with bold new investments in people, places, and purpose.
A renewed term means a sharpened focus on Plainfield’s most pressing needs and promising opportunities: maintaining stable taxes, advancing digital equity, building more affordable housing, protecting our environment, and keeping every resident connected to opportunity. With Plainfield’s renaissance in full swing, the vision is clear — a city where everyone, from seniors to students, has the tools and the trust to thrive.
Plainfield’s greatest asset is its people. From our youth to our seniors, every resident deserves services that affirm their dignity and enhance their daily lives. Mayor Mapp’s administration will continue to tailor government to meet residents where they are, ensuring services are inclusive, data-informed, and culturally competent.
The Senior Citizens Center will expand its socialization, wellness, and transportation services, building on a year where over 1,600 members were served — including 327 seniors who received personalized case management and over 9,000 rides for essential trips.
Mental health support, access to nutritious meals, and culturally relevant programming will continue to be prioritized for our growing and diverse aging population.
Efforts will also focus on reducing barriers for working families through enhanced access to tax relief programs, health services, and vocational training.
From filling potholes to expanding translation services for Latinx and multilingual communities, Mayor Mapp’s promise remains simple: every Plainfield resident should feel seen, heard, and supported.
Public safety in Plainfield is not just about policing — it’s about prevention, preparedness, and partnership. Under Mayor Mapp, the city recorded zero homicides in 2024 — a testament to innovative community policing, youth mentoring, and investment in emergency services.
Looking ahead:
The Police Division will deepen its community engagement efforts and integrate advanced surveillance technology to further drive down crime and increase responsiveness.
The Fire Department will continue to modernize, building on recent additions like a new fire engine, ladder truck, LED fire safety education monitors, and a cutting-edge firefighter training facility.
Seven new firefighters and expanded emergency medical capabilities will ensure faster, more comprehensive responses to crises large and small.
The city will maintain a strong focus on youth mentorship, crisis intervention, and transparency in officer conduct.
Plainfield’s economy is booming — over $1 billion in investment, 6,000 new housing units, and hundreds of thousands of square feet of commercial space are reshaping the city’s skyline. But economic development must also be equitable.
Future goals include:
Continuing partnerships with the NJEDA, Kean University, and SBDC to grow local businesses, particularly those owned by women and people of color.
Expanding the Sign & Façade Grant Program to beautify additional storefronts.
Launching more workshops and expos — like the 100+ already held — to support entrepreneurs and job seekers.
Accelerating construction on mixed-use housing and community projects in the Downtown, West End, and South Avenue districts.
With new jobs in cannabis, skilled trades, and tech, Mayor Mapp’s vision is not just about attracting investment — it’s about building pathways to prosperity for everyone.
Plainfield is fast becoming a regional destination for recreation and the arts. Mayor Mapp’s recreation renaissance is transforming empty lots into vibrant gathering spaces.
Future initiatives include:
The opening of the Rushmore Pool & Splash Park, featuring a competition-sized pool and water activities for all ages.
Completion of the Center of Excellence — a youth-focused athletic and mentoring hub with indoor basketball courts, fitness areas, and leadership programs.
Development of the North Avenue Recreation Facility, designed for multigenerational programming and physical fitness.
Expansion of inclusive playgrounds, walking trails, and green spaces across all wards, plus continued growth of the mural arts and decorative beautification programs.
This work goes beyond amenities. It’s about community health, youth empowerment, and fostering pride in public spaces.
Infrastructure is the skeleton of a city — and in Plainfield, it’s getting stronger every year. The Mapp Administration will prioritize smart, sustainable growth.
Key projects:
Full renovation of the Watchung Avenue Pump Station and new stormwater retention systems to protect the Green Brook waterway.
A new 10,000-gallon fueling station and in-house fleet repair system that has pushed on-time garbage pickup to over 99%.
More road resurfacing, sidewalk upgrades, and stormwater recharging for cleaner streets and resilient communities.
Free citywide WiFi to bridge the digital divide and ensure all residents have internet access for school, work, and daily life.
The Solid Waste & Sewer Utility will also expand its no-charge drop-off services, continue youth-led litter cleanup programs, and modernize collection systems to make Plainfield cleaner and greener.
Since taking office, Mayor Mapp has stabilized taxes, increased reserves, and attracted record development without burdening homeowners. The next phase includes:
Continuing to diversify the tax base through commercial growth.
Creating solutions for seniors and homeowners facing foreclosure or rising property costs.
Developing a program to return vacant and abandoned properties to the tax rolls.
Financing at least $3.5 million annually in capital projects.
Identifying federal, state, and private grant opportunities to support long-term citywide programs — including the Plainfield Promise initiative for youth education and success.
Plainfield’s future is not a dream — it’s already unfolding. From revitalized neighborhoods to thriving senior centers, from safer streets to new playgrounds filled with laughter, this city is rising. With every sidewalk poured, every small business launched, and every fire truck dispatched, the Mapp Administration reaffirms its mission: to lead with purpose, serve with integrity, and deliver a city worthy of its people.
Together, let’s continue this renaissance. Let’s keep building the future — block by block, ward by ward, and dream by dream.
